THE UNFORGETTABLE VINTER OF 2012
In the winter of 2012, we observed abrupt changes in landscapes and atmospheres over short periods of time and space. Weather changes were immanent and required an assortment of clothing throughout most of the year. Delicate scarfs and gloves were dropped and the cycle of cardigans carried, worn, and removed, was endless. In our struggling to keep winter wear in the right place, we set out to design a coat with adaptability and functionality.
OUR STORY BEGAN WITH A SIMPLE SKETCH.
THE STORY OF THE MITTEN POCKETS
In the summer of 2013, under the direction of the CEO, Anders Næss, head designer, Mareah Peoples, and co-designer, Iman Peoples, IM Peoples Coat Company was established. By winter our notion of mitten pockets improved. We designed them large enough to suit all sizes, positioned them proportionally at the hips, and calculated an angle that enabled using them as customary pockets. We sought symmetry and high performance.
We considered the long finger of the hand an important aesthetic and functional element. A turning point was our attraction to the traditional Norwegian Selbu mittens with there sharp tip at the long finger- we sought the most comfortable fit.
Our Norwegian-American heritage was manifested and realized.
By the spring of 2016, we moved forward with full confidence in the Vinter design- with its redefined structures and original functions. In perfect sequence, we found the right match for a pattern maker and design studio. The team projected aesthetic proportions, natural simplicity, and assimilated the functions into the design.
